Student Spotlight: Alicia Cuadra-Cutler

Alicia Cuadra-Cutler began her love of wine in 2010 while living in Santa Cruz and tasting through the Santa Cruz Mountains. Soon after, she took a position as Tasting Room Associate at Sycamore Creek Vineyards, a small winery in the Santa Clara Valley. Spending most of her time in the Cellar sparked even more interest in wine and winemaking. Alicia began taking any courses and tasting seminars she could to further her knowledge of wine and the industry as a whole through UC Davis, the Guild of Sommeliers, and later the San Francisco Wine School. In 2013 she passed the Certified Sommelier exam, shortly after becoming Assistant General Manager of Sycamore Creek. While finishing her Bachelor’s degree, she worked restaurant floors as a server and Sommelier in both San Jose and Carmel-by-the-Sea, in addition to her full-time winery job. She completed the CSW course with the San Francisco Wine School this spring, and earned her Certified Specialist of Wine credential. Earlier this year she began working with Cabrillo College in Aptos as a Teacher’s Aide in their newly revamped Wine Certificate program. In addition, Alicia writes a monthly wine column that appears in the Lifestyle section of newspaper in the South SF Bay.

Alicia loves to teach people about wine, and is studying for her Certified Wine Educator credential, which she plans to take next year. She will also be applying for her Advanced level Sommelier this fall while taking the Italian Wine Professional series at San Francisco Wine School. She aspires to become a Master Sommelier and Certified Wine Educator, and hopes to one day open a restaurant and Wine Bar concept that offers wine education in the Monterey Bay.
