David Glancy recognized large gaps in wine education and knew he could fill them. While European countries had established credentials, there was nothing that covered California wine in depth or the nuances of each of its varied regions. So in 2012, armed with his vast wine knowledge and teaching experience, David created the California Wine Appellation Specialist® credential which has quickly been recognized by the Wine Institute and regional winery and grower associations around the state.
Similarly, when David saw the need for more entry level, broad based beverage programs, he went on to create the Somm Essentials certification which includes blind wine tasting, fine beverage service, food and wine pairing, and vital information about production methods and styles across the entire beverage industry, including wine, spirits, beer, sake, tea, coffee, bottled water Somm Essentials serves as an important stepping-stone toward the challenging Certified Specialist of Wine exam and in preparing for the Court of Master Sommeliers’ first two levels of exams, and comparable exams from other credentialing organizations.
David Glancy has a deep history with wine education. He currently sits on the board of the Society of Wine Educators and is only one of twelve Master Sommeliers in the world to pass their rigorous Certified Wine Educator exam. He also created, managed and taught the only Certified Sommelier Program approved by Court of Master Sommeliers at the Professional Culinary Institute which has helped more than 10% of the world’s Certified Sommeliers pass the extremely challenging exam.
