San Francisco, Calif. / Washington, DC (April 9, 2015)
Somms of the East Coast get ready; serious California wine education is hopping coasts to cater to the thriving restaurant scene in Washington DC. David Glancy of San Francisco Wine School proposes that these this powerful immersion into California wine “may change the course of your wine career, or make your team significantly more effective at what they do.”
“Competition in the wine industry is only getting more intense, and education will set you apart,” counsels Glancy, founder of San Francisco Wine School. “More than ever before, consumers are educated and wine-savvy. When they make a purchase, they demand more than what’s on the label. They want details, history, even stories. They want a wine that will satisfy all of their senses.”
David Glancy champions a wine professional’s ability to make a difference with education, and created the first and only professional credential program on our country’s most significant wine-producing region: the California Wine Appellation Specialist® certification, CWAS® for short.
The CWAS® program arms students with up-to-date, nuanced knowledge about California’s rich history and distinct wine landscape. It quickly has become the gold standard for the industry, earning the support of wine grower associations and the Wine Institute. Instructor David Glancy is one of only twelve people in the world to hold both a revered Master Sommelier diploma and a Certified Wine Educator credential. He’s not only a wine expert, but has proven his ability to teach and help students analyze what’s in their glass.
The CWAS® 3-day Intensive will feature guided blind tasting of more than 60 wines, immersing students into Mendocino, Napa, Sonoma, Santa Cruz, San Francisco Bay, the Delta, Lake County, the Sierra Foothills, Monterey, San Benito, Paso Robles and the rest of San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and beyond. Watch the CWAS preview videos here.
Topics also covered include:
- Identification and interpretation of US vs. California wine laws
- Discussion of California wine history and its impact on today’s American Viticultural Areas
- Detailed investigation of California’s wine production
- Examination of the various climates, soils, grapes, and wineries of each region that make it distinctive to the California wine landscape
The CWAS® 3-Day Intensive includes 22 hours of instruction. It will take place at Capital Wine School June 5-7, 2015, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Daily breakfast and lunch are included, and a Saturday tasting dinner with David Glancy is available for an additional charge. The CWAS® credential exam will be available online following the program. Students who achieve a passing exam score will be designated California Wine Appellation Specialists® and granted the use of the post-nominal CWAS. The program fee is $1,495. Installment plans are available.
