Maker Wine
|
Open Position |
Wine Educator & Storyteller
|
Location |
San Francisco, CA (Remote Ok)
|
Maker Wine partners with best-in-class, independent winemakers throughout California to deliver premium, small-batch canned wines to your door. We’re growing quickly through virtual events — over the past three months our small-but-mighty team of three has led 100+ virtual happy hours for thousands of customers. We want to bring on some part-time help to host these events and introduce more people to Maker and our fab winemaker partners.
What you’ll do:
Lead engaging, interactive virtual tastings for groups of 5-100 people, from company events and offsites to small gatherings and just-for-fun occasions. Educate and answer questions about the wines in the Maker portfolio, but more importantly share the Maker stories and the “why” behind the wines. Tell the Maker founding story thoughtfully and share how we’re creating a new company in wine. Come up with creative ways to “break the ice” during events and keep the audience engaged.
Who you are:
You love wine, and you know a thing or two about it — you’re a certified sommelier or equivalent and you love sharing your passion with the world. You think wine is for everyone — while you’ve got the chops, you delight in explaining intimidating concepts in an approachable, down-to-earth way. You believe in the Maker mission — you’re passionate about small producers and telling their stories, ‘nuff said. You have an open mind: You know that great wine comes in many shapes and sizes… You’re a natural storyteller — you can hang in a group of somms or beginners and you’re the glue that makes awkward Zoom happy hours...not as awkward. You’re great with technology and highly organized with exceptional attention to detail; no balls dropped on your watch. You’ve hosted events and are comfortable with commanding a room (or Zoom). You get excited about our mission and are not phased by working with a startup; you’re all about that hustle.
Where You’ll Be:
We’d love to see your face now and then at our Novato office and warehouse, but remote is a-ok too. Our events are usually between 4 pm to 7 pm PT Monday through Friday, with some exceptions.
Who We Are:
We are a small-but-mighty team of four local ladies shaking up the wine world and lifting up the little guys. We are storytellers, curators, and experience-makers. We want to fix a broken system that adversely impacts small producers and make premium wine approachable to everyone.
We are obsessed with quality and doing right by our customers and wine producer partners. We are thoughtful and personal; details matter and data drives our decisions.
We believe wine is for everyone. We want the diversity of our team and winemaker partners to reflect the diversity of the wines that we carry.
We are independent and self-motivated, we’re self starters and problem solvers; our work schedules are flexible because we trust each other to get things done. We hire A players. The sky's the limit on what you can build and own at Maker.
We have fun — if we wanted to be miserable we would have listened to our parents and taken that [insert corporate company job here]. We’re the kind of team that spends the photoshoot hair and make-up budget on wine and cheese instead. We crack cans in the parking lot on Fridays, take off-sites to visit our wine producers, and we’re always learning from each other.

Open Position |
Tasting Room Server

Pierce Ranch Vineyards is a small, family-owned operation centered in southern Monterey's San Antonio Valley appellation. We produce limited-run, estate grown wines with an emphasis on Spanish and Portuguese varieties.
Although we specialize in Spanish and Portuguese varietals, our plantings are a somewhat eclectic mix of varietals selected not only for their ability to excel in our climate, but also for their complementary qualities. As a smaller operation with a comparatively low case volume, our approach to winemaking is fairly similar to our approach to wine growing. Dealing in a number of small lots that isolate different corners of our vineyards, we tend to experiment with a variety of different yeasts and fermentation practices, handcrafting each lot in the process.
We are looking for a part-time tasting room associate to join our team in Monterey, CA. Approximately 10-15 hours a week, with the possibility for more. Wine knowledge is preferred, and excellent customer service skills are essential. Must be able to work weekends. Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
