 About the Role

As a Head Sommelier, you will be working closely with the Wine Manager in updating the wine list, ordering wines, and educating staff. Maker’s unique direct-to-trade strategy allows us to partner with best-in-class retailers including restaurants, independent grocers, hotels, resorts, ski hills, concerts, museums, pop-up events, and more (see our “Find Us in Stores” page for some of our current accounts). As our first Retail Sales Associate, you’ll be in charge of leading an essential channel for Maker, including:

- Maintaining and growing an account list of retail partnerships across California and soon to include Washington and Oregon. Pitching new retailers, bringing on new key accounts, and expanding to new geographies as desired.

- Working with retailers to negotiate pricing, secure premier product placement, build and merchandise displays, train and educate partners and staff, and get the cans “off the shelf” and into the hands of happy customers.

Who You Are:

- You’ve sold wine or food/bev products into retail or wholesale before, ideally scaling the channel from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands or millions in revenue.

- You love to sell a product you believe in, care about small producers, and want to represent a women-owned and operated company.

- You’re familiar with wine sales and the three-tier system, and maybe even have experience working with wine distributors.

- You work independently and are comfortable being on the road, meeting with retail partners and prospects.

- You’ve built a sales funnel before and/or led a sales team, and are familiar with using CRM software like Copper or Salesforce.

- You’re a versatile A-player, ready to dive into a fast-paced startup environment and not afraid to roll up your sleeves and get things done.

Qualifications:

- 3-5+ years of experience in retail, distributor and/or wine sales.

- Experienced in cold lead generation and managing a robust sales pipeline. - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Graduate degrees or wine education is a plus!

- Strong presentation skills and interpersonal skills; able to lead pitches and take meetings with retailers big and small.

- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and GSuite.

The Position:
We are looking for an experienced (min. 2 years) manager with passion for wine from all parts of the world. The position's title can be determined based on your experience as we are looking for a floor manager or an asst. General Manager with focus on maintaining our wine list and staff training. As of now we have a compact wine list that we would like to expand with your preferences.
Schedule: 5 days per week, 8 to 10 hours per day.
Your days off would be Mondays and either Wednesdays or Thursdays, depending on your preference.

Boutique wine retailer specializing in DTC wine fulfillment & shipping is looking for a responsible, hardworking individual to assist in the logging, fulfillment, movement, and shipping of wine. The position requires experience with warehousing, conducting inventory, parcel shipping, and use of point-of-sale systems for invoicing and fulfilling orders. Having some wine-related knowledge or experience is extremely helpful and preferred in this role (i.e., being able to read a wine label and recognize the differences between wine regions, vintages, producers, etc).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ORDER FULFILLMENT: Packing wine orders and preparing them to be shipped, delivered, or received. This role requires attention to detail and careful handling of valuable wines.

LOGISTICS COORDINATION AND CUSTOMER COMMUNICATION: Coordinating and managing the logistics associated with the shipping, delivery and pick-up of wine orders. 

INVENTORY MANAGEMENT: Assisting with inventory management. Entering new wines into a POS system and keeping said inventory numbers accurate and up to date. -

RECEIVING: Receiving wine deliveries and closely reconciling received shipments vs what was ordered. Providing the finance department with all invoices. Filing historical invoices in an organized system.

Ideal candidate should possess the following:

• Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint);

• Familiarity with Quickbooks POS a plus;

• Basic understanding of wine shipping compliance;

• Computer literate/capable with spreadsheets and inventory software;

• Physical ability to lift 40-50 lbs repeatedly;
