Winemaker Panel in Occidental: “Evolution of Wine on the Sonoma Coast”
Date & Time: Tuesday, November 11, 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm
Location: Inn at Occidental, Occidental, CA
Price: $75 — includes 8 guided tastings
This session is ideal for those working in the Sonoma wine trade who want to learn how to talk to guests with more regional awareness and consider new growing and production ideas for the future. Attendees will explore the evolution of the Sonoma Coast through the lens of both leading and emerging winemakers. Discussions will focus on current AVAs, pending appellation changes, and varietal development within changing climate contexts.
The session will be hosted by Master Sommelier and SFWS Founder David Glancy, one of the few individuals globally to hold both the Master Sommelier Diploma and Certified Wine Educator credentials.
Why These Events Matter
As summers get warmer, wineries are moving further west. Occidental is at the center of it all - West Sonoma Coast & Green Valley of Russian River intersect here and 2 more American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) are in the works right in their backyard.
By combining high-level tasting with immersive site visits and winemaker dialogue, SFWS aims to deepen participants’ regional fluency and equip professionals with a better understanding of the wines and be able to convey meaningful stories around terroir, grape selection, and climate adaptation.
