Rubina Vieira is originally from Madeira Island where she was born in 1973. Graduating with a degree in Chemistry, she joined the Madeira Wine Institute (IVM) in 2001 and since then, her entire professional life has been dedicated to wine, particularly Madeira Wines, for which she has an enormous passion.
From 2001 to 2011, Rubina was the responsible for the chemical quality control of all the wines and spirits certified by IVM. In 2011, she becomes the Head of the Tasting Panel where she was responsible for the sensorial analysis for wines and spirits under the purview of the now Institute of Wine, Embroidery and Handicraft of Madeira, IP-RAM (IVBAM). In 2013, deciding to improve her technical knowledge, Rubina joins the Universidade Católica do Porto (UCP) to do her postgraduate degree in oenology. Simultaneously, she continued training and implementing new Tasting Panels for spirits and other traditional food products of the island.
Rubina is a speaker at lectures, seminars and master classes on Madeira Wines at international fairs and events such as Big Fortified Tasting (BFT) in London, Prowein in German, Daejon International Fair in Korea and several sommelier schools in Fukuoka and Tokyo in Japan, Italy and Spain. In the local market, she is also the responsible for the wine education in local restaurants and hotels and represents IVBAM in the reception and accompaniment of journalists, opinion leaders and professionals of the wine sector when visiting Madeira.
Rubina is also a regular member of the jury of several national and international wine competitions such as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the Berlin Wine Trophy, the Asia Wine Trophy, the Portugal Wine Trophy and the Concurso de Vinhos de Portugal.
