San Francisco Wine School Offers Only California Wine Credential Program

San Francisco, Calif. (January 17, 2014) – San Francisco Wine School is offering the first and only formal credential relating to California wines to shape a new generation of industry-leading California wine experts: the California Wine Appellation Specialist® (CWAS) Program. Nick Frey, former President of Sonoma County Winegrowers, is very supportive. “By delving into the diversity of climates, soils and topography,” explains Frey, “the class helps students fully appreciate wines from each AVA.”

CWAS® is the only comprehensive, up-to-date education program on California wine, featuring material that is literally impossible to find from other resources. David Glancy, CEO and founder of San Francisco Wine School, created the CWAS® program and exam to help ensure the next generation of wine experts is properly versed in the nuances of California wine. His hope is that the program creates California wine advocates from Miami to NYC to Las Vegas, who can truly open up the world of California wines to consumers.

Italy and France both have internationally recognized certification programs in place to drive interest and celebrate the nuances their wine regions. “If wine students don’t have the resources or formal channels to specialize in California wine, it sends the wrong message about California’s diverse range of meso-climates, grape varieties, and wine styles,” warns Glancy. “To compete with old world imports and fully tap into growing demand for wine, we need to put educational channels in place to properly engage the industry. Competition is only getting more intense.”

David has a deep history with wine education. He currently sits on the board of the Society of Wine Educators and is only one of twelve Master Sommeliers in the world to pass their rigorous Certified Wine Educator exam. He also created, managed and taught the only Certified Sommelier Program approved by Court of Master Sommeliers at the Professional Culinary Institute.
