Join us for the launch of the Grandes Pagos de España Terroir Workshops at the San Francisco Wine School 

The two day Terroir Workshop by Grandes Pagos de España explores Spanish terroir through its history, science, geography, language and people.   Students will experience the "grand crus" of Spain through the wines and stories of its 34 members renowned single estate vineyards.

Founded in 2000, Grandes Pagos de España is a non-profit association of 34 prestigious wineries across Spain. Membership in Grandes Pagos is based on rigorous selection criteria for viticulture and winemaking excellence on the level of a pago, a delineated vineyard that is the ultimate terroir designation in Spain. Grandes Pagos de España aims to defend the unique, terroir-driven personality of single-estate wines, to uphold and promote the ethos of Spanish winemaking, and to produce wines of excellence in harmony with the soil, nature and climate of each vineyard. More about the Terroir Workshops:
Launched in 2023, the Terroir Workshop series is a global education program that provides comprehensive coursework designed for consumers and trade led by top Spanish wine experts. Classroom study and tasting focus on the foremost Spanish “pagos,” a single vineyard designation equivalent to the term “cru” reserved for notable viticultural sites. Last year’s in-person workshops launched in Miami, Los Angeles and Mexico City. Under the guidance of GPE’s growing education team, new workshops are planned for Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, Mexico City, London and Tokyo (read full educator bios here).

• Online pre-study guide introducing Grandes Pagos de España, Spain, and its history, culture, climate, geography, the concept of terroir, and the different wine regions. 
• A 6-page brochure with profiles of each of the wineries in the Grandes Pagos de España, including key facts, terroir, viticulture, winemaking, winery singularities, and wines produced.
• 12 hours of education and tastings on Grandes Pagos de España and their 34 members 
• 34 tastings from Grandes Pagos de España members different from the Preview Event held September 26th
• Online access to live class without tasting kits

A short, multiple choice exam will take place in the final hour of the course. 

A Grandes Pagos de España Terroir Workshop Certificate will be issued to those individuals who achieve a score of 70% or higher. 

This Grandes Pagos de España certificate will provide a validation of your Spanish wine expertise and enhances your resume; it will also serves as a point of distinction within the wine trade.

All in person attendees must be at least 21 years of age. This certification program is designed for intermediate and advanced students. Those who want to strengthen their foundational knowledge of Spanish wine before attempting this certification are encouraged to take one of our beginner level programs and / or Intro to Spanish Wines
