The Evolution of South Australian Grenache

A Special Hybrid Masterclass

While Grenache may have its origins in Europe, it is Australia that is now home to the largest collection of old vines, with plantings dating back to the 1800s’.  Grenache was one of the early varieties planted in Australia and has long been used to make fortified wines and blends, but is growing in popularity as a single variety wine, particularly from old-vine, low-yielding vineyards.

This Masterclass led by David Glancy, MS, CWE and Wine Australia’s Mark Davidson will allow us to take a deep dive into the history and evolution of Grenache in South Australia, the importance of old vines, use in blends and food pairings. An eye opening guided tasting will feature a stellar line up of Grenache wines from Barossa, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and other regions to explore.  Guest winemakers will share why they love to work with Grenache and what’s most exciting to them in the continuing evolution of this variety.
