Bubblyfest Pop-Up San Francisco descended on our space last weekend and was a roaring success. We celebrated one of our favorite fermented bevvies with almost 300 guests! The day included a walk-around tasting with 16 visiting domestic sparkling wine producers, and some delicious confectioners to boot!
To kick off the event, Riedel Glassware hosted an exclusive seminar where we learned how the shape of the glass affects the way we perceive what's in it.
Master Sommelier David Glancy then hosted two fascinating seminars: 'All Bubbly, Many Techniques' provided a survey of various methods of production for sparkling wine and 'Value Bubbly Around the World' gave guests some insight into the wide spectrum of quality and value of sparkling wines, as well as what factors to consider when making purchases.
Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvres while sampling dozens of sparkling wines from California including some surprising and delicious additions. These included a Sparkling Tempranillo from Capay Valley Vineyards, Rack and Riddle's North Coast Blanc de Blancs - a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and French Colombard - and LVVR's Brut and Blanc de Blancs - dry, crisp sparkling wines made from Lodi (!). Who knew there were so many innovative iterations of one of the oldest and most celebrated wines in the world??
And what bubbly event would be complete without a sabering demo by our very own David Glancy... He takes his sword-wielding very seriously!
