Roero Rosso DOCG: A Guided Tasting
Discover the elegance of Roero Rosso DOCG with Master Sommelier David Glancy and Francesca Iraldi. Explore European red wines, authentic salumi pairings, and the unique heritage of the Roero appellation.

Experience the richness and character of Roero Rosso DOCG through an exclusive educational tasting dedicated to one of Piedmont's most expressive Nebbiolo-based appellations. Presented as part of the European campaign Sip and Savor: Pairing European Wines & Deli Meats, co-funded by the European Union, this seminar offers wine professionals an in-depth exploration of premium European red wines and traditional salumi pairings.
The session will be led by Master Sommelier David Glancy, internationally recognized wine educator and founder of the San Francisco Wine School, together with Francesca Iraldi, Communication Manager of the Consorzio Tutela Roero.
Participants will discover the distinctive characteristics of Roero Rosso DOCG and Roero Rosso Riserva DOCG, wines produced primarily from Nebbiolo grapes grown on the sandy hills of the Roero region in northwest Italy. The speakers will explain how the area's unique soils, climate and centuries-old viticultural traditions contribute to wines known for their elegance, refined tannins, aromatic complexity and remarkable aging potential.
The 10-wine educational tasting will highlight the diversity of the denomination while providing practical knowledge about production standards, sustainability initiatives and the role of the Protected Designation of Origin system in preserving authenticity and quality.
A carefully selected range of authentic European salumi will accompany the wines, allowing participants to understand how structure, tannins and aromatic intensity interact with traditional cured meats. The session will offer practical pairing principles that can be applied by sommeliers, retailers, restaurateurs and wine buyers in their daily professional activities.
Attendees will also gain valuable insights into consumer trends, market positioning and communication opportunities for premium European wines within the U.S. market. The tasting will encourage discussion and provide useful tools for presenting Roero wines to customers and trade audiences.
Designed for wine students and professionals across the wine and hospitality industries, this masterclass combines technical education with an engaging sensory experience, offering participants a deeper appreciation of one of Italy's most prestigious red wine appellations and its exceptional compatibility with European salumi.
