On this 50th anniversary of the Judgment of Paris, we invite you to celebrate with us as we host our first ever Secret Wine Bar wine pairing dinner. Three courses - Two wines per course - One from California. One from France. Which is best? You be the judge!
This uniquely edutaining experience is designed and hosted by Co-Owners, Kristin Campbell & Master Sommelier David Glancy who have a deep passion and rich history with the competition to share with our guests. Resident Chef Cynthia Bloebaum will lovingly prepare each dish.
On May 25th 1976, the world famous Judgment of Paris brought California into the forefront of the wine scene when a wine merchant named Steven Spurrier hosted a blind tasting for an all French panel of judges. It was flights of newly discovered California Cabernets vs the best of Burgundy and Bordeaux. To everyone's surprise, the French Judges selected a 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and 1973 Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon as the winners. It just so happened that a journalist was in the audience and the story landed on the cover of Time Magazine. And with that, Napa Valley stepped onto the world stage of wine.
The judges were understandably upset and decried that California Wine would not age well and so a rematch was called 30 years later with the original wines and vintages to see how they matured. Again, California won, but this time a Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon took center stage. What will happen during this 50 year competition. You be the judge!
