Saturday, November 5th marked the one year anniversary of San Francisco Wine School's Wine Education & Events Center and five years of growing to become the largest wine school in the country! It was a fabulous celebration of our beautiful home and our vision which is constantly re-energized by our extended family of students past, present and future!
This momentous event also marked the launch of the Glancy Wine Education Scholarship Fund - raising money to enable worthy students with aspirations in the wine industry to move towards their goals.
In collaboration with Wine Spectator, Golden Gate Restaurant Association, and the San Francisco Chronicle, the day began with 'Test Your Wine Knowledge' where guests watched as MC Leslie Sbrocco lead top Bay Area Somms Wendy Shoemaker, DLynn Proctor, and Martin Sheehan-Stross through a blind wine tasting.
The lively audience participated as these pros deduced what was in each glass. Hearing these professional Somms voice their tasting methods play-by-play, as well as their personal anecdotes, was a rare, fun experience. Watching the blind tasting process unfold for those at the top of their game was entertaining and enlightening to say the least!
After the Panel Tasting, we opened our doors for a Global Grand Tasting featuring wine and beer from all over the world including France, California, Italy and Ancient Regions! A very special thanks to our sponsor - Henry Wine Group! Check out what we tasted!
Diverse and delicious bites rounded out each tasting table. Our chef created thoughtful food pairings to go with the wines and beers being poured and succeeded in creating that coveted gastronomical synergy. Yum!
Our action-packed live and silent auctions opened up to guests offering amazing wine-related items and experiences. Master Sommelier David Glancy showed us another of his many talents with his auctioneering skills, riling the crowd up, creating friendly bidder rivalry, and displaying the awesome, once-in-a-lifetime experiences up for grabs. It was all in good fun, all for a great cause, and a great show to boot!
The silent auction showcased gems including pairing dinners at some of the Bay Area's best restaurants, rare and special wine in large formats, a gorgeous Riedel decanter, an engraved Saber, and more! The suspense was palpable as guests made their best attempt to claim the coveted items!
Meanwhile, cutthroat service olympics ensured lots of laughs and a dual sabering kept the celebratory bubbles flowing! We loved getting silly with our service techniques and racing to demonstrate that hospitality pros should be considered athletes in their own right!
Thanks to everyone in attendance - whether in person or in spirit - for toasting with us to the long, bright road ahead!
